ANR SNF Project ANCOR ( Algorithm Design for Microrobots with Energy Constraints )


Project ANCOR ( Algorithm Design for Micro-robots with Energy Constraints ) aims at meeting the algorithmic challenges for designing robotic swarms where each robot has limited energy resources which constraints the movements of the robots to a bounded distance. Tasks performed collaboratively by the team of mobile robots needs to be coordinated carefully so that no robots runs out of energy since the robots are considered to be battery operated without the ability to recharge their batteries. The project considers several tasks for the robot swarm (such as collective exploration, delivery of goods, near gathering etc.) and studies techniques for algorithmic solutions to these problems in both centralized and distributed or online setting, providing efficient, exact or approximation algorithms as well as showing lower bounds and hardness results for collaborative tasks by the team of mobile agents.

This project was jointly funded by the ANR France (Agence Nationale pour la Recherche) and SNF Switzerland (Swiss National Science Foundation) as a bilateral project involving scientists from both countries.
