How do children acquire their native language? How can this human ability be reproduced in machines? These fascinating questions have motivated my research so far.

My work is in the intersection of Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision and Linguistics. My goal is to develop computational systems that learn to understand and speak natural languages from multimodal data, inspired in the way children learn their native language. The interest of these systems is twofold: not only to better understand the process of natural language acquisition, but also for the various applications that may be designed using them (for example, to facilitate the communication between humans and machines).
