These are some useful tools in my work that I would like to share.

Websites

• WordReference, the well-known dictionary
• Thesaurus, a synonyms dictionary
• Merriam-Webster, English dictionary with syllables splitting. In case you don't trust LateX' hyphenation
• Linguee, for translations within context
• Forvo, for checking pronunciation
• Detexify, or how to find the name of a symbol in LaTeX
• A Web Whiteboard, for collaborative drawing. Quite nice when you are Skyping with someone
• dblp, a bibliographic service specialized in computer science. You can easily see the works of a researcher and export BibTeX citations
• SciRev, for reviews of journal scientific review processes. Check it before you submit a paper
• SHERPA/RoMEO, for brief information about publishers conditions. Check it also before you submit a paper
• Sci-hub, a lot of research papers available for direct download [☠ illegal]
• Barak Pearlmutter's document, a concise guide for reviewing a scientific paper. The world would be a better place if every reviewer read this!

Android apps

• Adobe Acrobat, for commenting PDF files. I prefer it against printing and writing on papers
• @Voice Aloud Reader, TTS (text-to-speech) for PDF files. I proofread my papers also listening to them!

Linux tips

• Spell-check your TEX file with aspell -t -c file.tex
• Compress your PDF file with gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/printer -dNOPAUSE -dQUIET -dBATCH -sOutputFile=compressed.pdf file.pdf
