Presentation
There are many bridges between Computer Sciences and Philosophy. From a philosophical perspective, computer science stems from the works of Frege and Russell, carrying the analytic tradition to a new level. Formal philosophical insights on truth, language, cognition and consciousness can be drawn from the various mathematical frameworks surrounding fundamental computer science (logic, computational complexity, computability, …). On the other hand, studying the ontological and epistemological contexts of computational issues is essential to ensure a coherent construction of this discipline. Finally, computer science seems to reveal a novel access to reality, through a paradigm called natural computation. In this reading group, we propose to explore some of the major contributions pertaining to the interactions between computer science and philosophy.Principle
The presenter selects a paper which will be spread through the mailing list at least a week before the talk, giving everyone the time to read or browse the article. During a session, the presenter explains the paper informally, allowing for discussion and exchanges. The main purpose of the group is to discover, share and understand new ideas in computer science and philosophy to stimulate our research.Seminars
